These rules and policies are effective: Sept. 15, 2012

Automatic Minimum Suspensions 2012- 2013


Removing Helmet Infractions

- Any player who removes their chinstraps before or during a fight 1 game
- Any player who removes his helmet and releases his chinstrap to fight and the opposing player does not, the former will receive an additional two minute penalty 1 game
- Any player who removes his opponent's helmet or releases the chinstrap before or during a fight 1 game


Pre/Post Game Altercations

- Any player involved where majors, game misconducts and match penalties are assessed. (Maximum of 5 per team) 1 game
- Coach of a team whose players are so penalized 3 games
- Any team involved in a pre or post game brawl indefinite


Gross Misconducts (2 games)


Abuse of Officials

- Game misconduct for verbal abuse of officials (zero tolerance) 1 game


Match Penalties

- Deliberate injury indefinite
- Use of blocker 3 games
- Hairpulling, kicking, headbutting, grabbing the facemask, buttending, spearing, slashing, high- sticking, cross checking, facial protector as a weapon 2 games


Check from Behind/Hit to Head

- If above penalty(s) is assessed with a five minute major and a game misconduct 1 game
- When a match penalty is attached to either of these penalties 4 games

 

Fighting

-Any player engages in their 3rd fight in a season 1 game
-Any player engages in their 4th fight in a season 2 games
-Any player engages in their 5th fight in a season 3 games
-Any player engages in their 6th fight in a season indefinite


Instigator or aggressor of a fight

-1st offence Game misconduct
-2nd offence 1 game
-3rd offence 3 games
-The head coach whose player is penalized for a 3rd offence 3 games
-Third man in a fight 1 game
-Any player receiving a fighting major penalty, which is a result of a second or subsequent fight in the same stoppage of play 1 game
-Any player identified as the first to leave the player's bench during a fight 2 games
-Any player identified as the first to leave the penalty box during a fight 3 games
-The coach of the team whose player is penalized under the above two points 2 games
-The coach whose player leaves the player's bench or penalty box during a fight 1 game
-The player identified as being the first to leave the player's bench to start a fight 3 games
-The player identified as being the first to leave the penalty box to start a fight 4 games


Any player or team official who receives a minor penalty and a game misconduct or an infraction resulting in a game misconduct/gross misconduct penalty, that occurs in the last ten (10) minutes of regular time or any overtime, or at the conclusion of the game prior to the player or team official entering his dressing room, shall automatically be suspended for a minimum of the next game. This is in addition to any other suspensions directed by Hockey Alberta Minimum Suspensions.
