The 2017-18 HJHL season kicked-off on Friday night with four games on the schedule.
Mountainview (6) vs. Ponoka (4)
DIDSBURY – Josh Gette had a pair of goals as the Mountainview Colts held off the Ponoka Stampeders comeback to take a 6-4 win on Friday evening.
Wyatt Gelinas, Chas Gross, Damian Vickers and Matthew Myatt rounded out the scoring for the Colts, which held a 5-1 lead after 40 minute before Ponoka stormed back with three unanswered to start the final frame and cut the lead down to just one.
Reid Money earned the win between the pipes, making 35 saves along the way, while Taylor McLawghlin took the loss for the Stampeders, stopping 25 shots on the night.
Shea Reynolds, Taite Opdendries, Nate Higgins and Kieran Bulloch tallied for Ponoka.
Okotoks (10) vs. Cochrane (3)
OKOTOKS – Eight different players found the back of the net as the Okotoks Bisons cruised to a season-opening 10-3 win over the Cochrane Generals at Murray Arena.
Kyle Harrison and Robbie McLean each found the back of the net twice, while McKoy Kahlert and Jousha McCulloch each finished with a goal and two helpers.
Brennan Fuoco led all skaters with a four-point night, all assists, as Okotoks held leads of 4-1 after 20 minutes and 8-2 going into the final frame.
Jarod Domingo scored two of the three goals for Cochrane, while Austin Keller finished with one goal and one assist.
Jharin Bantugan, Tyler Rohl, Jason Horn and Adam Stafford rounded out the scoring for Okotoks, which got a 40-save performance from goaltender Devin Reagan.
Airdrie (4) vs. Blackfalds (1)
AIRDRIE – A pair of second period tallies off the stick of Jacob MacDonald powered the Airdrie Thunder to a 4-1 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers at the Rob Ebbessen Arena on Friday evening.
Ryan Simpson turned in a 38-save performance between the pips for the Thunder, which also got a goal and assist from Brenden Davidson.
Jacob Gillespie sealed the deal with his third-period marker.
Matty Parton tallied the lone goal for the Wranglers, which got 28 saves from goaltender Lane Brann.
Stettler (5) vs. Three Hills (2)
STETTLER – Dylan Houston had a pair of goals as the Stettler Lightning skated to a 5-2 win over the Three Hills Thrashers on Friday night.
Mark Bengert, Erik Rost and Brendan Bardwell also found the back of the net for the Lightning, which got a 23-save performance from netminder Taylor Frank.
Cooper Cheshire and Ryan Spiller provided the offence for Three Hills, each netting a power-play marker, while Klay Munro turned aside 46 shots between the pipes.
