All three games on Friday night came down to the wire, including some overtime heroics in Didsbury.
Airdrie (5) vs. Mountainview (4)
DIDSBURY – Dante Raposo scored the winner just 38 seconds into overtime as the Airdrie Thunder skated to a 5-4 win over the Mountainview Colts on Friday evening.
Rylan Plante-Crough and Clay Murray led the charge for the Thunder (10-3-2) in regulation. Plante-Crough scored twice and setup another, while Murray had a goal and two helpers. Zachary Giroux rounded out the scoring with his first of the season.
C.J. Wedenig registered his seventh win of the season between the pipes, making 33 saves along the way, including 12 in the final 20 minutes.
Ethan Woodward kicked aside 32 shots in the Colts’ crease.
Cochrane (6) vs. Blackfalds (4)
BLACKFALDS – A wild, five-goal third period propelled the Cochrane Generals to a come-from-behind 6-4 road win over the Blackfalds Wranglers on Friday.
Trailing 4-1 after 40 minutes, Scott Shugg would find the back of the net twice, including the winner, while Austin Keller, Colton Wong and Slater Ranson, an empty-netter, would add singles to complete the five-goal frame for Cochrane (8-7-0).
Ryan Chambers had two goals and one assist for Blackfalds (10-3-0), which held a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes before extending it to a three-goal lead after the second period.
Tyler Bell and Braden Olsen had the other goals for the Wranglers, while Rylan Bardick made 41 saves in net.
Cochrane got a 24-save performance from netminder Erik Garber, who picks up his eighth win of the season. Talus Hume rounded out the scoring for the Generals.
High River (3) vs. Ponoka (2)
HIGH RIVER – Josh Younker’s power-play marker with 3:03 left on the clock held on as the game-winner as the High River Flyers edged the Ponoka Stampeders by a score of 3-2 on Friday evening.
The Flyers (8-6-3) trailed 2-1 going into the third period, before Cole St-Amand would find the equalizer 7:13 into the frame. Mason Mazur had the other goal for High River to round out the offence.
Jordan Sears and Kayden Gatz tallied for the Stampeders (1-9-2), both goals coming in the second period, with Sears’ being a shorthanded effort.
Dylan Jensen stopped 28-of-30 shots fired his way in the High River crease to register the win, while his counterpart at the other end of the ice, Keenan Starkell, made 37 saves for the Stampeders.
