Colts 8, Thunder 6
Game 1 was a defensive battle.
Game 2 — not so much.
The Mountainview Colts followed up a 2-1 overtime victory in the series opener with a wild 8-6 win in Game 2.
Josh Gette sniped a hat trick to give the underdog Colts a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven affair.
Travis Gerrard potted a pair and added two assists for Mountainview, who will visit Airdie for Game 3 on Monday night (8:15 p.m.).
Jordan McConnel scored a hat trick and added an assist for Airdrie.
Brayden Dunn, Tristan Paquette and Tyler Petrie also chipped in offensively for the Techmation Thunder.
Airdrie bench boss Derek Stamp said the bottom half of his lineup will need to produce as the series moves forward.
"Our top guys came to play and were really good all game," Stamp said. "We couldn't find any secondary scoring for the second game in a row and that, along with some struggles from our back end, has us in a hole.
"It will be good to have a day off tomorrow.
"All we can do is look to Monday and be sure that we are focused on our process."
Alan Klinck, Mitchell Visser and Sam Kolke also lit the lamp for the Colts.
Game 3 is in Airdrie on Monday night.
