HJHL Roundup: Shootout in Coaldale highlights four-game Saturday |

A shootout in Coaldale highlighted an exciting four-game Saturday across the HJHL. Okotoks (4) vs. Coaldale (3) COALDALE – Kyle Harrison scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout to lift the Okotoks Bisons to a thrilling 4-3 win over the Coaldale Copperheads on Saturday night. Adam Stafford, Robbie McLean and Josh Russo had the goals in regulation for the Bisons, while goaltender Devin Reagan picked up the win between the pipes, making 36 saves on the night, as well as stopping all five shootout attempts he faced. Okotoks led 1-0 after the first period before the teams found themselves deadlocked at 2-2 after 40 minutes. Troy Feldbusch, Jedd Horvath and Clayton Nevil provided the offence for the Copperheads, which got 25 saves from Nolan Berner between the pipes. Cochrane (5) vs. Airdrie (2) COCHRANE – Slater Ransom and River Ross each scored twice and setup another as the Cochrane Generals skated to a 5-2 win over the Airdrie Thunder on Saturday evening. Austin Keller also had a three-point night for Cochrane (9-8-0), as he chipped in with three assists, while goaltender Erik Garber stopped 23-of-25 shots faced. Taylor Girard rounded out the Cochrane scoring, in a game that saw six of its seven goals come in the opening frame. Dante Raposo gave the Thunder (11-5-2) the lead, just 1:34 into the game, only to see the Generals tie it just 10 seconds later on Ross’s first of the night. Stettler (4) vs. Medicine Hat (0) STETTLER – Jordan McCallum made 28 saves to register the shutout as the Stettler Lightning took a 4-0 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs. Dylan Houston led all skaters with three points, scoring once and adding one assist, while Quade Cassidy found the back of the net twice. Erik Rost rounded out the offence for Stettler (5-8-2) with a goal and assist. Josh Breznik made 45 saves in the loss for the Cubs (6-9-0). Red Deer (7) vs. Strathmore (0) RED DEER – Mack Differenz scored twice and added two assists as the Red Deer Vipers blanked the Strathmore Wheatland Kings by a 7-0 score on Saturday. Cole Sears stopped all 20 shots he faced to pick up his second shutout of the season, and sixth of his HJHL career, while Connor Sullivan added three assists for the Vipers (11-4-1). Austin Thorne, Aidan Wilson, Kayson Gallant, Cooper Willms and Curtis Hallman rounded out the Red Deer scoring. Cole Bright got the start for the Wheatland Kings (9-6-1), stopping 30 shots in just under 50 minutes of work. |
